The Tommy Hall / Pikeville Training Center

The training center was  recently rededicated to former Fire Chief, Tommy Hall and is now called; The Tommy Hall / Pikeville Training Center. The training center and drill tower are available on request to any county fire department. We have training every other Tuesday for our volunteers, but at anytime you can catch someone training on something. All Firefighter/EMT's are responsible for completing 100 hours of recertification training a year by the Kentucky Fire Commission, we are also liable for a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education to maintain good standing for your Kentucky EMT certificate every two years, and for those of us that are Nationally Registered EMT's we must acquire 72 hours continuing education every two years. There are always classes taking place to achieve those two requirements, but we also must complete hours of recertification for any specialized certificates that each firefighter may have earned. This training will vary from person to person, but the point is there is always some-type of class taking place for something.  We also host the Pikeville/Pike County Regional Fire School every year. This years dates will be September 7th - 9th. The annual firefighters combat challenge will be held at Station #1 on the 7th with sign up beginning at 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and the challenge will begin shortly thereafter.

Station #1 also has a newly constructed weight and exercise room. The department has recently adopted a workout policy, with physical fitness requirements, and each firefighter will be required to pass an annual physical fitness test. These requirements will not only promote a more healthy lifestyle, but will allow us to perform our job more proficiently.  The department has purchased two treadmills, a jacobs ladder, an elliptical trainer, and a recumbent exercise bike for the weight room. We also have two flat benches, an incline bench, a decline bench, a pec deck, a leg press machine, and a squat rack. We also have a variety of dumbbells and smaller weight training implements available at our disposal.
