There comes a great deal of pride being a leader in the City of Pikeville. Pikeville is where US460, Route 23, 119 and 80 all meet, creating an opportunity for an open market. Our plan is to look beyond today into tomorrow and create an industry that will help the economy long term.
This area is rich in resources with our people and infrastructure, which will assist in fueling future growth. Some look at Pikeville and see on a small city. We look at the true picture of what the area really has to offer.
The City is home to over 6,500 residents and we are the county seat for the largest county in the state of Kentucky with a population of approximately 70,000. We are home to the 3rd largest banking community in the State. Located in the city is Pikeville Medical Center, the area's state of the art regional hospital. The Medical Center offers services such as a cancer center, heart treatment center, rehabilitation center, drug treatment center and a home based air lift service, just to name a few.
Our education system consists of some of the state's top ranking schools, Besides our elementary and high schools, Pikeville is home to several higher learning institutions. Pikeville College is a four-year college offering one of the stat's only medical programs. Osteopathic medicine is producing doctors for both the area and the state. The college also offers a full range sports program. In addition, we are home to the new Big Sandy Community & Technical School. To complement the schools the city maintains a state of the art sports complex along with two other parks.
East Kentucky Exposition Center 7,000 seat Civic Center recently opened, located across from The City of Pikeville Park, conveniently located next to the City of Pikeville owned and operated 700 car parking garage. Currently in our retail area there are new developments going on to support the areas continuing growth. This will create new shopping opportunities and jobs. Looking forward, our goal is to focus on new industry such as manufacturing.
The hope is to create new jobs, a stronger economy and allow citizens who were born here to stay here and enjoy what the area has to offer.
